"COMMENT of 1 Nov 05. Ambassador Joesph Wilson spoke at length, without notes and without rancor, to the National Press Club yesterday. His comments are available on video from C-SPAN. The Washington Post, among others, is completely ignoring the story despite the clear evidence that Vice President Dick Cheney, then National Security Advisor Condolezza Rice, Counselor Karl Rove, and perhaps Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, should be investigated for high crimes and misdemeanors subject to impeachment, and offered a chance to resign. Here is what we heard in one of the most articulate, elegant, balanced, and methodical public presentations it has ever been our privilege to observe.
First based on a direct investigation by Ambassador Wilson, previously Ambassador to Niger, Iraq, and other key African states, well-regarded, fluent in French, and ideally suited to conduct the investigation, it became crystal clear to all relevant parties including the White House principals, that these documents from the Italians were a forgery, and no transaction was possible, on or off the books. The details that Ambassador Wilson outlined are compelling: the French, not the local government, control the mines; the specific signatures needed were not on the documents; 500 tons would represent a 40% increase in production and would demand requisite increases in labor, transport, and barrels; and the money alleged was so considerable, there was no way this could take place on or off the books without everyone knowing.
Second, the real investigation that needs to occur has yet to take place. We the People must know who, precisely, inserted those sixteen words on uranium from Niger into the State of the Union speech, who precisely over-ruled the Department of State and the Central Intelligence Agency when they objected, and who precisely participated in an on-going cover-up of this falsehood until well after the elections."
