I had a DNC footsoldier come to my door yesterday, here in San Diego. In some ways, I was more informed than him - he had just returned from teaching English in Spain. He has no access to the blog, or the net.
I gave him 20 bucks. I said "this is my beer money. I'll go without beer for the cause".. I also gave him a beer and a hearty thank-you.
On the one hand, he was haggard as he had faced many repugs. Some had been nice, given him water, etc., but many had slammed the door in his face. Two of them had WORKED for the McGovern campaign, but were now repubs voting bush. How HORRIFYING!! He had talked to a few repubs voting for Kerry, and he says that once a week he meets a gore voter voting for Bush. But they might just be saying that to dispirit him.
I said, "keep the faith, you are doing good and important work". He said that the dems weren't going to open an office in San Diego, but had, and had now raised 500K - twice what they expected.
The DNC came to my door. I gave. I will give again. I will work harder. I will type faster. I will talk to more people.
THERE ARE NO DO_OVERS. This election cannot be re-done. We must get it right.
If it ain't close, they can't cheat.
DEFEAT BUSH
fight them in the streets, in the fields, in the bars and in the schools. fight their lies at every turn, raise your voices up for FREEDOM and TRUTH.
WE MUST WIN
OUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON IT
FIGHT FOR KERRY! HE'S FIGHTING FOR YOU!
