Is The Guardian Unlimited Pulling Our Chains?
Guardian Unlimited Life 'Deadly' ladybird spotted in UK: "A ladybird which has caused 'catastrophic' damage to other insect species in the US is on the loose in Britain, an expert said today.
Harmonia axyridis - also known as the Harlequin ladybird or multi-coloured ladybug - poses a 'deadly threat' to butterflies, lacewings and many other ladybirds, Dr Michael Majerus, of Cambridge University's genetics department, said. "
I just had to write about this, being a Ladybird x-pert and all:

After reading this story in disbelief 2 times, I was pleased to see your reader-response addy on the page.
This beautiful little insect eats ONLY aphids, primarily off of tomato plants, and is not a threat to anything. I would hope you quickly retract this impression, or end up with another massacre of nature such as the one in the 14th century where all British crazies descended on felines in a very successful extermination effort.
The rats quickly took over, with their rat-fleas, and created their own bubonic plague massacre of Europeans. This could be very detrimental. Aphids of the world will descend on Great Britain with the knowledge that their only natural enemy, the beautiful Ladybird insect, is gone.
This catastrophe will ravage your tomato crop, and run the price of spaghetti sauce through the roof.
Very truly yours,
A. J. Franklin
